Two fire districts in Erie County did not always follow their policies and obtain quotes in advance before making purchases, audits by the state comptroller's office have found.
Auditors examined the books from January 2016 to July 2017 for Walden Fire District No. 2 in Cheektowaga and the Aurora-Colden Fire District.
Aurora-Colden Fire District did not seek competitive quotes for 97 purchases totaling $171,013, while the Walden Fire District did not obtain quotes for 27 purchases totaling $77,044, the audits found.
Officials for the fire districts agreed with the findings, and said they would make sure the policies are followed and will retain paperwork to document that they are followed.
