Forum Thursday on bus access for city students, treatment by NFTA

A public forum on Metro Bus transportation for Buffalo students will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Frank E. Merriweather Jr. Library, 1324 Jefferson Ave.

The forum is hosted by the Buffalo Parent-Teacher Organization and a coalition of community organizations that want better bus service and treatment for thousands of students who rely on the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority to get back and forth to school.

The district pays the NFTA about $8 million a year to transport some 10,200 students, but their bus passes are “highly restrictive” to certain times and routes, critics say.

The forum — which will include NFTA and district staff — will be a chance for dialogue on the issue, as well as to present specific concerns to the NFTA and district.
