Benjamin Mazur of Lancaster and Daniel Harig of Canisius were honored as the top high school student athletes in Section VI Football and the Monsignor Martin Association Monday night at Ilio DiPaolo's in Blasdell. The presentations were among the awards made at the Amateur Football Alliance's annual Football Scholar Athlete dinner honoring seniors in local college and high school ranks.
Mazur, valedictorian of his class, was a defensive end for the Legends. Harig, a first honors student at Canisius, played defensive back for the Crusaders.
The collegiate senior awards went to linebacker Nick Pilon of Erie Community College, quarterback Kyle Hoppy of Buffalo State and defensive end Damone Harris of the University at Buffalo. Pilon is from Williamsville North, Hoppy from Orchard Park and Harris from Bishop Timon-St. Jude.
Brock Blecha, a senior at Franklinville High who was an all-around performer for the combined Franklinville/Ellicottville team and a first-team All-WNY player,received the Bob Kalsu Memorial Scholarship Award from the Buffalo Bills Booster Club.
The Bills Alumni Association present its Tom Sestak/Tom Day Memorial Award to lineman All-Western New York lineman Jeremiah Sanders of South Park.
