CORNELL, Robert Martin
CORNELL - Robert Martin 81, of Peoria, AZ, died in his home on December 27, 2017, from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was surrounded by family and friends. Bob was born in Buffalo, NY in 1936 to Rachel (Radica) and Norman Cornell; Rachel raised Bob as a single parent until she married Daniel George. Bob served in the US Air Force, and was a 41-year employee of the New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail, and Amtrak railroads. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Cornell (married 1956 - 1959), and their son, Michael Cornell; as well as his wife Virginia "Ginny" Wood (married 1996 - 2015), and stepson, James "Jim" Wood. Bob is survived by his children and step-children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Francine (Cornell) Stine, husband William, of Florida; Christine Cornell-McGregor, husband Clyde, of Minnesota; Dennis Cornell, wife Robbie, of Iowa; Randy Cornell, of Iowa; Allen John-Cornell Corben, wife Susan Sternkopf, and daughter Mallory Corben, of California; James Cornell, wife Rebecca, and daughter Sarah, of New York; Mark Wood, wife Anita, and sons Kyle (wife Gwen and children Alice and Mark), Ryan, Tyler, and Wyatt, of Arizona; Lisa (Wood) Patrick, partner Roy Smith, and son Darius, of California; Scott Wood, wife Christie, and daughters Cayla and Emma, of California. In addition, Bob is survived by his half-brother Tom Cornell, and half-sister Marlene Ranahan, as well as Betty Williams (married 1962 - 1988), mother of Allen Corben and James Cornell. From Paradise Island in the Bahamas, to California-where he sold magazine subscriptions door-to-door in his youth-Bob leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his loving companion, Pat Porak, his sister-in-law, Pat Troxel, his niece, Liz Gunter and her husband, Jutiki, and his many friends, including Ken Jolly, Fred Large, Dan Murphy, the billiards players, the train guys, and the mallwalkers. A celebration in his honor will be held at 2PM on January 12, at Vineyard Church, North Phoenix, 6250 W. Peoria Ave, Glendale, AZ 85302.
