WHEATFIELD – Police are searching for a man suspected in several car break-ins in the areas of Walmore, Steig and Lockport roads and Colonial Drive.
The suspect was chased from the scene of one break-in by a victim, who confronted the man only to receive a denial. The Lockport Road resident did not immediately report the incident to police because he did not believe anything to have been taken from his vehicle, but he later realized that $10 in cash and a pair of headphones were missing.
On Dec. 30, police investigated a pair of break-ins, including one on Steig Road in which a cellular telephone charger was stolen. Officers said that several tools and some holiday gifts were left untouched inside the vehicle, but an empty box which originally contained the victim's cell phone, was taken.
A Colonial Drive resident chased the suspect off after he broke into a car parked in the driveway of the home. He reported losing $5 in change. A Walmore Road resident lost $20 and a cell phone in a theft the same day. Police believe the same vehicle was involved in each of the thefts, and are in the process of tracking down the suspect via a license plate number retrieved by one of the victims.
