CONROY, Dr. William J.
CONROY - Dr. William J. On January 2, 2018, Bill joined his parents and sister in heaven. Predeceased by his loving parents, William P. and Kathryn M. Conroy, sister Helen K. Murphy (William) and nephew and niece, William J. and Helen F. Murphy. He is survived by his nieces, Mary Anne (William) Benedict and Kathryn Murphy and his grandnephews and nieces, Paul, Colleen and Brian Benedict and Ferron Murphy, and his best friend of 50+ years, Brian Vandenberg, PhD. He is remembered by his family and close friends as a loving, caring man, who touched the lives of many. He lived his life with uncompromising values, especially integrity and independence, the twin values that guided his life. Bill had a brilliant and diverse career. He served in the Korean War and was a decorated Army pilot. His love of flying led him to his next role as flight instructor for the Air Force, and then Director of Buffalo Airpark. Bill then returned to school, earned a PhD in Psychology at the age of 48 and became Area Coordinator at the University of Buffalo, where he counseled countless numbers of students throughout his 20 years with the university. In addition to his role with UB, he was hired by the FAA and MIT to be a member of a panel that was developing new guidelines for training new pilots. Bill was passionate about the arts, loved the theatre, symphony, opera, dance and was himself a gifted classical pianist. He was a remarkable person with a passionate, generous, caring spirit, lived with great intensity, integrity and compassion. The family will receive friends at the PAUL A. KLOC BLOSSOM CHAPELS, INC., 4680 Clinton St., West Seneca, NY, on Sunday, January 7th from 1:00-4:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rose of Lima, 500 Parker Ave. on Monday, January 8th at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Buffalo Fund, University at Buffalo Foundation, Inc., PO Box 730, Buffalo, NY 14226-0730. Please assemble at church.
