Kaylyn Schroka scored at 1:09 of overtime to give the Buffalo Beauts a 3-2 victory over the Boston Pride on Saturday afternoon at Harbor Center. The victory strengthened Buffalo's hold on second place in the National Women's Hockey League.
The Beauts (4-4-0) with eight points in the standings now lead third place Boston (2-4-2) by two points. First place Metropolitan Riveters (7-0-0) lead with 24 points before their game today against the Connecticut Whale.
Jess Jones scored with assists from Taylor Accursi and Corinne Buie) to give the Beauts a 1-0 lead at 8:00 of the first period. Janine Weber scored the first of her two goals at 5:15 of the second to tie it but Hayley Scamurra put the Beauts back in the lead at 9:29 of the second. Maddie Elia assisted.
Weber's goal at 5:15 of the third tied it again. All goals were even strength though Buffalo had four power-play opportunities to none for Boston.
Beauts goaltender Amanda Leveille stopped 21 of the 23 shots she faced. Brianna Laing of Boston had 39 saves.
