New Amherst appointees include retired justice on IDA board

The Amherst Town Board and new Supervisor Brian J. Kulpa made a number of appointments at the board's reorganizational meeting Tuesday night.

Kulpa named Francina Spoth, who was elected to the board in 2015, as deputy supervisor.

The board approved Kulpa's selection of Julie Yates, the wife of Williamsville Trustee Al Yates, as the supervisor's secretary, at a salary of $41,196.

The board also named former State Supreme Court Justice Timothy Drury to the board of the Amherst Industrial Development Agency. Drury takes the seat of Edward Stachura, whose term expired in 2017.

And the board appointed Alissa Shields to replace Michael Cimasi on the town's Zoning Board of Appeals. Shields is an environmental activist who has fought the proliferation of cell phone towers in neighborhoods.
