Beer notes: Meet Alien Technology, Righteous Uncle Olaf

New from Pressure Drop

Pressure Drop Brewing has released its latest new beer, Alien Technology. The 8.8 percent DIPA (double India pale ale) contains Simcoe and Citra hops, generating aromas of citrus and resin before finishing smooth with sharp bitterness.

Alien Technology is on tap at The Barrel Factory (65 Vandalia St.), the home of Pressure Drop. Call 541-1454. Read more about the new urban brewery here.

More from New York Beer Project

New York Beer Project (6933 S. Transit Road, Lockport) will release Righteous Uncle Olaf at 5 p.m. Jan. 4. The new beer is the latest in its series of rotating imperial IPAs, standing at 7.8 percent ABV.

Touted as the “dank uncle” of the brewery’s signature double IPA, Righteous Dude, Righteous Uncle Olaf is hopped with Warrior, Mosaic, Zythos, Ekaunot and Motueka hops. Call 743-6927.

A taste of winter

42 North Brewing Company (25 Pine St., East Aurora) is debuting three winter-themed beers in the coming weeks.

  • Ukrainian Christmas Ale, is a spiced dark ale modeled after popular Ukrainian dessert kutia - essentially a wheat berry pudding - and is brewed with walnuts, poppy seeds and honey. The 6.9 percent ABV beer is already on tap at 42 North, and it won’t last long.
  • Good in the Snow, is a spiced sweet stout (7.2 percent ABV), brewed in collaboration with KCBC (Kings County Brewers Collective, Brooklyn). The beer is balanced, with notes of cinnamon, vanilla and chocolate and hints of ancho and pasilla chiles. It will be tapped at 42 North at noon on Jan. 6.
  • Ben Nevis, a 6.6 percent ABV Scotch ale named after the highest mountain in British Isle. Brewed with premium English malts and Northern Brewer hops, the beer contains flavors of sweet caramel, honey, toast and dark fruit notes. Ben Nevis will be tapped at noon Jan 20. Call 805-7500.
