Suspected hit-and-run driver unable to outrun police

A suspected hit-and-run driver couldn't elude police early Sunday in Niagara Falls despite driving his car until a tire "disintegrated," officers said.

The incident began just before 2 a.m. in the Military Road parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter, where police attempted to stop a suspected hit-and-run driver. The pursuit proceeded onto 80th Street and Niagara Falls Boulevard.

At Dudley Avenue and Hyde Park Boulevard, with his front passenger-side tire destroyed, the driver lost control and abandoned the car. He was caught in the 3200 block of Belden Place.

Police said that Kevin Turner, 21, of Falls Street, was charged with a felony-level drug possession charge as well as unlicensed operation, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, having illegal tires, failure to yield right-of-way to an emergency vehicle, and multiple counts of passing a red light and failure to signal.
