Passing a police cruiser leads to DWI arrest

A woman was charged with driving while intoxicated late Saturday in Niagara Falls after she passed a police cruiser as it waited at a stop light to make a turn.

According to police reports, the patrol vehicle was stopped at a traffic signal on Niagara Street while waiting to turn onto Portage Road at 10:20 p.m. Before the light could change, a motorist passed the cruiser on the left side and turned onto Portage Road, entering the oncoming traffic lane to do so.

The driver was pulled over a short distance away and displayed signs of intoxication, police said. A Breathalyzer test subsequently revealed that Judith M. Weaver, 43, of North Avenue, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.14, and she was charged with DWI, failure to keep right and passing a red light, according to police reports.
