Path to the playoffs: What happens to the Bills in every Week 17 scenario

For the first time since 2004, the Buffalo Bills enter Week 17 with a shot at making the playoffs. But a win alone won't get the job done – the Bills need help from among three other games.

There are eight different ways in which the other three games could end. With a win against the Miami Dolphins, the Bills would make the playoffs in five of those scenarios, although four of them involve the Baltimore Ravens losing to the Cincinnati Bengals. If the Ravens win, the Bills need both the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers to lose Sunday (and in that scenario, the Bills could tie and make the playoffs).

The Bills can finish as high as the AFC's fifth seed, which would send them to Kansas City for the wild-card round, though they could also win and not get in. Finishing sixth would send the Bills to Jacksonville, where they'd face old friend Doug Marrone.

So what happens in every scenario? Where would each team finish? The News' Sunday sports cover helps answer that question, taking you through each possible path. Follow along below, or click on the image to view it in a separate tab.

Here's the breakdown, from left to right:

• Bills win + Ravens win + Titans win + Chargers win = Ravens 5th, Titans 6th, Bills out.

• Bills win + Ravens loss + Titans win + Chargers win = Titans 5th, Bills 6th.

• Bills win + Ravens win + Titans loss + Chargers win = Ravens 5th, Chargers 6th, Bills out.

• Bills win + Ravens loss + Titans loss + Chargers win = Bills 5th, Ravens 6th.

• Bills win + Ravens win + Titans win + Chargers loss = Ravens 5th, Titans 6th, Bills out.

• Bills win + Ravens loss + Titans win + Chargers loss = Titans 5th, Bills 6th.

• Bills win + Ravens win + Titans loss + Chargers loss = Ravens 5th, Bills 6th.

• Bills win + Ravens loss + Titans loss + Chargers loss = Bills 5th, Ravens 6th.

• Bills tie + Titans loss + Chargers loss = Ravens 5th, Bills 6th.

• Any Bills loss = Bills out.

So remember, the Bills need either a Ravens loss, or a loss by both the Titans and Chargers.

And if the playoffs don't work out, here's where the Bills can draft based on Sunday's results.
