The first in a series of pistol permit recertification outreaches will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Clearfield Library, 770 Hopkins Road, Amherst.
County Clerk Michael P. Kearns, County Legislator Ed Rath and staff from the County Clerk’s Office will be available to answer questions about the recertification process and recertification forms will be available. Library computer stations also can be used to recertify online during the outreach.
Because of provisions in the New York SAFE Act, pistol permit holders who received their permit prior to Jan. 15, 2013 must re-certify with the State Police by Jan. 31, 2018. This is the first year this requirement is in place. Over 50,000 pistol permit holders in Erie County have yet to re-certify.
Those needing to recertify also can pick up recertification forms at auto bureaus in Erie County and at the Pistol Permit Office in Old County Hall.
