Comedy on Tap: Babeville showcase, Uncle Trent and 'Babushka' improv

As 2017 comes to a close, several local comedy venues are primed to help you laugh your way into the New Year.

Babeville’s long-running comedy showcase series “Laugh and Other Drugs” returns for a special “It’s a Wonderful Laugh” holiday edition at 8 p.m. Dec. 28. Hosted by Kevin Thomas Jr., the December edition features a mix of local and native Buffalo talent, home for the holidays, including Josh Potter, Steven Rogers, Shaun Murphy, Kelsey Claire Hagen, John Schuta, Sara Gunn and Zach Dietsch. General admission is $10  advance and $12 day of show. Info:

Rob’s Comedy Playhouse will ring in the New Year on Dec. 31 with Rochester comedian Uncle Trent, an area   favorite who has opened for several national acts. Joining him will be another Rochester comic, Ralph Tetta, and 97 Rock’s Rob Lederman. The show is at 9 p.m. Oct 31. General admission is $24.95 and includes drink, appetizer and champagne toast at midnight. Info:

If you prefer to make your plans spontaneously to see where the evening takes you, the “Babushka!” show at  9:30 p.m. Dec. 30 in the ComedySportz Arena in Amherst will be right up your alley. Professional actors and longtime improvisers Todd Benzin and Don Gervasi take one suggestion from the audience, and then create a one-hour play off the top of their heads.
