Two people were charged with driving while intoxicated following separate crashes in Erie County early Tuesday.
At about 12:23 a.m., sheriff's dispatchers received calls about a vehicle off Girdle Road between Griffin Lane and Elma Meadows Park. The driver was not in the car when deputies arrived. The suspected driver, Dillon Ward, 25, of East Aurora was eventually located and he was charged with DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage crash and two other vehicle and traffic law infractions. He was taken to the Erie County Holding Center where he was being held on $250 cash bail pending his arraignment.
At 1:36 a.m., deputies were dispatched to a car stuck in a snowbank of the outer rink road of Eastern Hills Mall. They found the vehicle still running and the transmission in drive. The deputies smelled alcohol on the driver, Hyuk Choi, 23, of Williamsville. Choi was charged with aggravated DWI, DWI and failing to keep right. He was released to a family member.
