In what seems to be a statistical oddity, veteran referee Jeff Triplette will officiate the Buffalo Bills' regular season finale for the second consecutive season.
Triplette's crew has been assigned Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins (4:25 p.m., CBS).
He also worked the Bills' 30-10 loss to the New York Jets on Jan. 1, 2017, that ended the Bills' 7-9 season. The crew called two penalties total in the game for 15 yards, both against the Jets.
In the 2015 season, Triplette had the second-to-last game of the season — a 16-6 Bills victory against the Dallas Cowboys. There were 15 penalties called in that game — eight against the Cowboys for 65 yards and seven against the Bills for 62 yards.
This season, Triplette's crew is almost right on the league average at about 14 penalties per game.
