Lockport’s Code Blue warming shelter in the Salvation Army center, 50 Cottage St. between Walnut and Genesee streets, will be open overnight from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, Mayor Anne E. McCaffrey announced.
The decision to keep the shelter open through Friday was prompted by forecasts of extreme cold temperatures for the rest of the week, she said.
Homeless people or anyone without heat is welcome to stay overnight in the comfort and safety of the shelter, the mayor said. Cots and blankets will be available, along with light refreshments. Entry will be allowed up until midnight every night.
