The Buffalo Bandits signed goalie Zach Higgins to a one-year contract, likely in response to Davide DiRuscio's injury Saturday at the Rochester Knighthawks.
Higgins is a five-year veteran of the National Lacrosse League, spending time with the Swarm and Roughnecks. He has a .755 save percentage in 55 career games. Last season he played one game with Calgary, making 34 saves.
DiRuscio, who has served as the backup in both Bandits games this season, was injured in the first quarter Saturday at Blue Cross Arena. He replaced pulled starter Alex Buque but didn't last a minute before suffering an injury while giving up a goal to Kyle Jackson. He didn't return to the Bandits bench and was using a crutch while walking around the arena after the game.
Buffalo didn't need to look outside the current roster to replace DiRuscio since Gowah Abrams is on the practice squad. He has no NLL experience but was on the Iroquois roster for the 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship.
