World Junior Championship: Everything you need to know

What: 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Hockey Championship

When: Dec. 26-Jan. 5

Where: 23 games at Key Bank Center; seven games at HarborCenter; outdoor game at New Era Field on Friday (3 p.m.)

Participating teams: Group A – United States, Canada, Denmark, Slovakia, Finland. Group B – Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belarus.

Format: Top four teams from each group advance to quarterfinals on Jan. 2.

Player eligibility: Players have to be under 20 – most are 18 or 19. The player can have his birthday in the year the tournament is ending so players born in 1998 are eligible.

Championship Village: Interactive fan experience with live music, food and refreshments will be open every day during the tournament and the Championship Headquarters will be open after each night game. Among the highlights are a beer tent, autograph signings, musical performances, the Zippo Warming area, hockey skills games and Snowzilla, a 40-foot tall toboggan slide.
