More than 500 children, including some experiencing their first Western New York winter, were helped through this year's Warm the Children campaign.
The program, led by the Rotary Club of Hamburg with assistance from Evans Bank and Sears in McKinley Mall, is in its 11th year of helping needy children to get new warm, winter clothing.
By mid-December, 524 youngsters from 226 families in the Southtowns had new jackets, coats, boots, pajamas and sweaters.
“One-hundred percent of all tax-deductible contributions go toward the purchase of new clothing,” said program coordinator Elizabeth Angelbeck. Expenses are covered by the Rotary Club.
The program also aided youngsters whose parents are drug addicted and supported four families recently arrived from Puerto Rico and Africa.
Donations are being accepted for the 2018 program through the Warm the Children Fund, Evans Bank, 5999 South Park Ave., Hamburg, NY 14075.
