Not guilty plea entered in strangulation death of homeless man

A homeless man was arraigned this week in State Supreme Court on a charge of second-degree murder in the strangulation death of another man in October.

Peter Isaacs, 38, has been jailed since his arrest on Oct. 27, four days after the body of 46-year-old Preston A. German, also homeless, was found inside a vacant building at 168 West Ave. Investigators allege Isaacs strangled German during an argument, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office.

Isaacs pleaded not guilty to the murder charge on Wednesday. Justice Russell P. Buscaglia ordered him held without bail. Isaacs is scheduled to return to court for a hearing on Feb. 14.

Police arrested Isaacs earlier this year on a burglary charge. He pleaded guilty in July to a lesser charge of trespassing.
