A 14-year-old boy suffered minor injuries after a car struck him while he was riding his bike Wednesday evening on Ransom Road on Grand Island, Erie County Sheriff's officials said.
The car, described as a maroon sedan with an orange license plate, fled the scene. The vehicle was westbound on Ransom Road, then it turned right onto Stony Point Road heading north.
The boy told deputies that he was riding his bicycle at about 6 p.m. when he saw a vehicle approaching from behind. He said he moved over to the shoulder of the road and the car hit him. The boy said he fell to the ground. He suffered injuries to his leg and abdomen and was treated at a local medical facility, officials said.
Deputies said the boy's bike is equipped with flashing lights and that they were working at the time of the collision.
Sheriff's investigators asked anyone with information about the incident to call 716-858-2903.
