Man fights off armed intruder in West Side home invasion

A Cheektowaga man was injured when he fought with an armed intruder at a West Side apartment on Sunday morning, according to a Buffalo police report.

A man and a woman were inside her apartment on the 200 block of Parkdale Avenue, between West Delavan and Lafayette avenues, and heard someone banging on the door at about 6 a.m., according to Buffalo police.

A masked man broke through the door and came into the kitchen, telling the man inside he was there to kill him, the report said. The suspect told the victim he had a knife and the two fought until the intruder fled, according to the report.

The woman in the apartment told police she was threatened by a former downstairs neighbor and thought the incidents may be connected. The man was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of pain and injuries to his head, face, shoulders and arms.

The suspect, who the victims said was bleeding from his head and face when he fled, was described as a black male between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet tall weighing about 240 pounds. He was possibly in his late 30s and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
