Five North Tonawanda churches and other organizations, working with the help of the North Tonawanda School District, will deliver holiday boxes this week to more than 200 families.
Renewal Church on Meadow Drive will be the distribution hub for the Box of Hope program's volunteer deliveries of food and gifts, scheduled from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in North Tonawanda.
The congregations of the churches purchased gifts. North Tonawanda students donated all of the groceries through homeroom food drives. And teachers and local organizations raised funds to buy gift cards. School counselors and other employees identified many of the needy recipients.
"This year more than 500 kids in our local schools will be receiving at least one gift,” said Pastor John Paul McLaughlin of Lumber City Church.
