A tractor-trailer driver who cut a corner too sharply Saturday, clipping a fire hydrant, knew his rig was driving awkwardly after that but didn't know why – until he got stopped by City of Tonawanda police.
That's when he learned he had been dragging two large boulders, weighing about 1,000 pounds each, that had lodged underneath his trailer and left his left rear tires off the ground.
Police said Samuel Daniels, 66, of Buffalo, made the turn at Niagara Street and Two Mile Creek road about 9:15 a.m. and dragged the boulders about a mile before being stopped by officers. A heavy-duty tow truck was called to dislodge the bounders.
Daniels was ticketed for an improper turn, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to use a truck route.
