NIAGARA FALLS – Police confiscated a knife and a loaded gun from a man after placing him under arrest for drunken driving early Saturday.
Paul R. Everett Jr., 38, of Lockport Street, told police he was driving home from a local tavern around 4 a.m. when he slid through an intersection at Lockport Street and Ontario Avenue, struck a stop sign and ended up in a snowpile on a sidewalk. Unable to free the car, he called police for assistance, and officers quickly noted his intoxication. While frisking Everett, officers removed a loaded revolver from his jacket pocket and a knife from his pants pocket, according to reports.
An open container of beer was located on the front seat of Everett's vehicle, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
