Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski, who has been holding public workshops to answer questions regarding state-mandated recertification of pistol permits, will host another one at 10 a.m. Saturday in the John A. Duke Senior Center, 1201 Hyde Park Blvd., Niagara Falls.
Pistol permits formerly were effective for life, but the NY-SAFE Act gun control law requires permit holders to renew every five years or lose their permits. Those who held permits before 2013 face a Jan. 31 deadline to recertify their information.
Jastrzemski said his workshops have been drawing large audiences with questions ranging from the basic to the obscure. The Republican clerk said the law's provisions "have been so poorly communicated to folks just trying to stay legal."
