“Bigs in Blue” is coming to Buffalo.
The one-to-one mentoring program is aimed at recruiting local law enforcement officers to serve as Big Brothers or Big Sisters to Littles - youth, specifically aged 10 to 12.
Buffalo police officers will volunteer their time at least once a week for a year or more with the Littles they are paired with. Special activities led by the officers will provide enrichment opportunities for underserved youth.
It’s the first national campaign of its kind and is underway in several cities, including New York.
The program is a partnership between Mayor Byron W. Brown, the Buffalo Police Department, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Erie County and Buffalo Public Schools.
