What to watch for Wednesday

1. Boys basketball - V-McQuaid at Canisius, 6:30 p.m.

The Crusaders are the No. 1 ranked large school in Western New York, receiving six of eight first-place votes after handling Williamsville South and Nazareth (NYC) at their Tom Keenan Classic this past weekend. McQuaid made an appearance at the Cataract Classic last Friday, lost to Niagara Falls, 76-54.

2. Girls basketball - Southwestern at Fredonia, 7:30 p.m.

In CCAA West I, Class B state semifinalist Fredonia (0-1) hosts Southwestern (3-0). The Hillbillies lost their opener to a tough Lake Shore team, 54-39. The Trojans have a win against Frewsburg and two over Randolph.

3. Boys basketball - St. Francis at Williamsville South, 7:30 p.m.

The Billies welcome Monsignor Martin foe St. Francis for a nonleague showdown. Greg Dolan-led South went 1-1 at the Tom Keenan Classic and are ranked No. 6 in the first large schools poll of the season. The Red Raiders (2-1) were one of eight schools named honorable mention.

4. Girls hockey - Amherst/Sweet Home/Clarence vs. West Seneca/Hamburg/Eden, 4 p.m.

CASH and WS/H/E square off at the Northtown Center. CASH (3-1) lost its first game of the season on Monday to Monsignor Martin, 6-2. WS/H/E (1-2) has a 3-2 win over Kenmore/Grand Island and two losses to Williamsville.
