Senior linebacker A.J. LiCata (Frontier) of Alfred University was named to the first All-America Division III team for the second year in a row by the American Football Coaches Association.
The only other Saxon player to earn AFCA first-team honors two years in a row was defensive lineman Don Miller in 2006-07.
LiCata, who is from Lake View, finished the 2017 season with 113 tackles, including 58 solo and eight tackles for loss. He was named Empire 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
"It’s very well deserved as he stands as our all-time leading tackler here at Alfred University and he is certainly in the conversation as one of the best football players to wear the Purple & Gold," Alfred Coach Bob Rankl said.
LiCata has been named to the D3Football.com All-East Region First Team, CoSIDA Academic All-District III First Team and Empire 8 First Team Defense.
