LOOKING BACK – Local historian Chuck LaChiusa, president of Explore Buffalo, will talk about architecture and design at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the IMAGINE Buffalo lunchtime lecture series in the Ring of Knowledge on the main floor of the Central Library on Lafayette Square in downtown Buffalo.
The program begins at noon with a Great Courses video on the cathedrals of Italy. Admission is free. You can bring a lunch or purchase one at the library’s Fables Cafe. The series is sponsored by the Center for the Study of Art & Architecture; History & Nature.

SNOW ANGELS – Now that snow is on the ground, the timing couldn’t be better for the Buffalo Nordic Ski Club’s annual open house, which will take place from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Wednesday in the Wick Center at Daemen College, 4380 Main St., Amherst.
The evening will include a video on cross-country skiing for beginners and advanced skiers, waxing clinics, displays of clothing and equipment from local ski shops and door prizes. Admission is free. No reservations are needed.
The club offers free lessons for members and organizes weekly ski tours and several weekend trips to places such as Allegany State Park, Algonquin Provincial park and Craftsbury, Vt.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR – The Women’s Club of Orchard Park will hold its Christmas Party Luncheon at noon Wednesday in the Orchard Park Country Club, 4777 S. Buffalo St. Members are asked to bring a pair of new ladies’ socks for donation to Cornerstone Manor, Buffalo City Mission’s shelter for women and children. The club hopes to donate 50 pairs in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

DON’T WAIT – Today is the deadline for reservations for the Northtowns Christian Women’s Connection Expressions of Joy luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Classics V, 2425 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst.
There will be a singalong of Christmas favorites, led by vocalist Sandy Cumming, followed by a full-course luncheon and an inspirational talk by Pat Petersen, who will discuss her memoir, “Much More to Life Than Fame and Fortune.”
