NIAGARA FALLS — A 56-year-old man suffered face and head injuries Saturday morning when he was attacked with a hammer by a man who had broken into his residence.
Police said the victim was lying in bed shortly before 9 a.m. when he heard a loud crash at his door. When he investigated, he found a man had broken in the door and was standing inside his vestibule. The two tussled and the victim was able to push the man outside and down some stairs, before the suspect struck him repeatedly with a hammer he had been holding.
The victim suffered a gash to his face and wounds to the back of his head before the assailant fled on foot. He refused treatment at the scene. Police described the assailant as a bald, black male, 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds, who was wearing a brown hoodie.
