Michael J. O'Brien, Buffalo Public Schools administrator

Michael J. O'Brien of Tonawanda, a principal and assistant superintendent in  Buffalo Public Schools, died Wednesday in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Niagara Falls. He was 66.

The Ithaca native served as principal at Campus West, PFC Grabiarz, and Leonardo DaVinci before being named assistant superintendent. He also worked for St. Mary of Sorrows and St. Mary’s on the Hill.

An avid traveler and nature lover, Mr. O'Brien explored the United States, enjoying Alaska and the Adirondacks and everywhere in between. An author in his retirement, he wrote "Love is Stronger than Pain," with proceeds going to Hunters Hope, and "I want more," which benefited  People of Praise.

Survivors include two sisters, Cheryl A. and Kathy Rahlfs, and two brothers, Stephen and Patrick T.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered  10 a.m. Dec. 16 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 68 Main St., Hamburg.
