A woman visiting an inmate at the Niagara County Jail had money stolen from her purse after failing to secure it properly in a holding area, sheriff's deputies said.
The victim told authorities she was visiting the Niagara Street Extension facility on Thursday afternoon and had placed her purse inside a locker in the jail lobby, but failed to lock it. After completing her visitation, she left the facility and later discovered that someone had removed $100 in cash from the purse.
The woman told deputies that she spotted a 19-year-old Niagara Falls woman in the lobby around the time that the theft had occurred. She said the woman has a history of stealing things, and suspects she may have taken the money from the purse.
