Man walking along I-190 charged with attacking 2 state troopers

A Niagara Falls man has been charged with attacking two state troopers with a plastic flashlight after he was found walking along the shoulder of the I-190 on Grand Island early Friday morning, according to State Police.

Troopers were responding to a call of a pedestrian walking along the highway when they came upon Damien A. Hayden, 34, who police said attacked the troopers without warning.

Hayden was taken into custody after a brief struggle shortly before 2:30 a.m. and charged with two counts of second-degree assault with intent to injure a police officer, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, trespassing and disorderly conduct, police said.
