Man charged with robbing Buffalo bank, West Seneca Kmart

A Buffalo man has been charged with robbing a South Buffalo bank and a Kmart store in West Seneca, according to authorities.

Paul R. Kowalski Jr., 44, of Greene Street, is accused of robbing the M&T Bank branch on Dorrance Avenue on Nov. 29, according to West Seneca police and Buffalo City Court officials.

Kowalski is also accused of robbing a Kmart on Orchard Park Road on Nov. 18, West Seneca police said. According to police, Kowalski went up to a register with a Mr. Goodbar candy bar and then pulled a knife on the cashier when the register drawer opened. The cashier handed over money and he fled, police said.

Kowalski was charged with robbery in both cases, which are expected to be presented to an Erie County grand jury. In the West Seneca case, he also was initially charged with fourth-degree grand larceny.

He was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center without bail by West Seneca Justice Jeffrey Harrington.
