Homeroom Announcements: Friday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Friday

1. Boys basketball - Tom Keenan Memorial at Canisius High School

This year's field features to teams from out of town and two of the top teams from Western New York:

  • Aquinas vs. Nazareth, 5:30 p.m.
  • Canisius vs. Williamsville South, 7 p.m.

2. Boys basketball - Cataract Classic at Niagara Falls

The two-day event kicks off with a triple-header on Friday:

  • Lew-Port vs. Sweet Home, 5 p.m.
  • East Aurora vs. Roy-Hart, 6:30 p.m.
  • V-McQuaid vs. Niagara Falls, 8 p.m.

There are six games scheduled for Saturday, starting at noon.

3. Girls basketball - Grand Island at Newfane, 6:30 p.m.

Newfane (2-0) has an experienced senior group that features Paige Emborsky. Grand Island (1-0), under first-year coach and 2010 grad Kristin Wegrzyn, is led by fourth-year junior Samantha Bailey.

4. Boys hockey - Orchard Park vs. St. Joe's, 7:30 p.m.

Two-time defending state champ St. Joe's (1-0) looks for its first league win when it visits Orchard Park (0-1) at Leisure Rink.

The Marauders beat Bishop Timon-St. Jude last Monday, 5-1, while Orchard Park was shut out by Canisius, 3-0, a week ago.

- Boys basketball: Randolph at Ellicottville, 7:30 p.m.
- Girls basketball: Kenmore East at Kenmore West, 7:30 p.m.
- Wrestling: Pioneer Duals, 4 p.m.
