Three public buildings in Niagara County evacuated because of bomb threats

Two court buildings and a county office building in Niagara County were evacuated Thursday afternoon because of telephoned bomb threats.

The threats were received at the County Courthouse in Lockport, at Niagara Falls City Court and at Vantage Center, the headquarters of the county Industrial Development Agency in Wheatfield.

Local police agencies dispatched bomb-sniffing dogs to check the three buildings. There were no reports police found any explosives.

County Risk and Insurance Director Jennifer R. Pitarresi said the county was working with police and the Office of Court Administration on the investigation.

Lockport police said the call to County Court came about 12:30 p.m., and the IDA office received a call about 12:50, according to Economic Development Commissioner Samuel M. Ferraro. Niagara Falls Police Superintendent E. Bryan DalPorto said a threat call came to the police desk at 1:17. Falls police share a building at 1925 Main St. with City Court, which was closed while police officers remained at their posts.
