The New York State Winter Classic Fishing Tournament is ready to kick off on Jan. 1, 2018 to help reel in the New Year. The contest runs for two solid months, ending Feb. 28. According to organizer Tim Thomas, if you are planning on fishing this event, it would behoove you to sign up before Jan. 1. As an incentive to register, they will be handing out over $10,000 in draw prizes to help kick off the competition after the ball drops. A $25 registration would make a great stocking stuffer.
Seven species categories can be targeted by anglers including pike, trout, pickerel, walleye, perch, crappie and panfish. All New York waterways are eligible – hard and soft water, lakes and streams, reservoirs and rivers. Weigh stations are available across the state. Grand Prize (based on numbers of entries) is determined through a drawing of all first-place category winners. Weekly, monthly and overall prizes are up for grabs.
