WNY College Notes: Canisius to play 14-game men's lacrosse schedule in 2018

Canisius College will play a 14-game schedule next spring in its first season under new coach Mark Miyashita.

Besides six Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games, the Golden Griffins will face formidable opponents on the road -- Colgate, Albany, an NCAA Tournament quarterfinalist last season, Hobart and Robert Morris.
The Griffs will start the season with road games at Dartmouth (Feb. 17), at Binghamton (Feb. 10) and Furman at a neutral Site, Philadelphia, on Feb. 24. The home schedule will open against Cleveland state on March 3

MAAC play gets under way at Siena on March 24. Other conference road games will be at Marist and Quinnipiac while Detroit Mercy, Manhattan and Monmouth will be met at home.
The top four teams in the MAAC regular season standings will advance to the conference championship at Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J. Semifinals will be May 3 and the championship game on May 5.

Freshman goalie Brian Wilson of Niagara was named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month for November. Wilson started every game in the month for the Purple Eagles going 3-3-1 and ranking fourth in the conference with a 2.59 goals-against average.  Against AHC competition, Wilson is first in goals-against (2.01),first in wins (7) first in win percentage Z(.750) and secon din save percentage (.922).

Buffalo State return man Jamar Rutledge (McKinley) earned All-East Region honors as a kick and punt returner. Rutledge, a juniorwas a first team All-Empire 8 selection as well after he led the conference with a 23.5-yard averatge on kickoff returns and a was second with a 10.3 average return on punt. He had a 96-yadr touchdown return at Morrissville State.
