A. 32 seasons (1970-2001).

In the NFL-AFL merger agreement, the Colts were one of three former NFL teams that moved to the AFC for the 1970 season. They were slotted in the AFC East and stayed there when the team moved from Baltimore to Indianapolis for the 1984 season. In 2002, when the NFL had an even number of teams (32) and realigned to four, four-team divisions in each conference, the Colts joined the new AFC South.
