Pearl Harbor Day exhibit honors veterans of U.S. wars

A Pearl Harbor Day exhibit honoring heroes of America's wars will be displayed from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the CAO Alphonso “Rafi” Greene Jr. Masten Resource Center, 1423 Fillmore Ave.

Honorees include: Dorie Miller, a Navy cook who manned an anti-aircraft gun to shoot down Japanese planes at Pearl Harbor; James Bennett and Johnson Wells, who were killed in World War II; Jesse Clipper, the first African-American solider from Buffalo to die in World War I; and Henry Pollard. Bennett, Wells, Clipper and Pollard have local veterans' posts named in their honor.

The program is sponsored by the Community Action Organization of Erie County and Johnetta R. Cole AMVETS Post No. 24, named for the nurse in Vietnam who also will be honored. Refreshments will be served. For information, call 563-2536.
