The Indianapolis Colts have to deal with yet another major injury in their depleted secondary.
According to Mike Chappelle of IndySportsCentral.com, starting cornerback Pierre Desir has a muscle tear and is out for the year.
Desir logged 375 snaps at cornerback for Indianapolis this season. He had Pro Football Focus' 82th-best coverage grade out of 116 qualifiers at his position.
Beyond that, breakout star Rashaan Melvin — who, by PFF's count has 10 pass breakups on the season, the same number as Tre'Davious White — is still "week to week" per head coach Chuck Pagano, also via Chappelle.
Melvin has allowed a passer rating of 60.3 this season, the 10th-best among the aforementioned 116 cornerbacks.
There was some good news for the Colts on the injury front, as Pagano mentioned he hopes to get back center Ryan Kelly from the concussion protocol on Wednesday. He missed Week 13's game against the Jaguars. Kelly was Indy's first-round pick in 2016, and while he struggled in his second season before his injury, he was PFF's No. 22 (out of 37) center a season ago.
