Beer news: Pizza Plant, Santora's, 12 Gates

Pizza Plant has twice the fun

Pizza Plant Transit (7770 Transit Road, Amherst) will host two tasting events. At 7 p.m. Dec. 14, the bar will feature Firestone Walker beers including Helldorado (12.8 percent ABV barleywine), Parabola (14 percent ABV imperial oatmeal stout), Bretta Weiss (4.9 percent ABV berliner weiss) and others. Customers can bring in an unwrapped toy for charity and receive $2 off a pint.

At 7 p.m Dec. 21, Nickel Brook Brewing Company (Burlington, Ont.) will invade the Plant, featuring owner John Romano and beers from the Funk Lab series. Call 632-0800.

Community Beer Works and Four Mile join forces at Santora's

Santora’s Pizza Pub & Grill (7800 Transit Road, East Amherst) will host Community Beer Works and Four Mile Brewing for a tap takeover from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 12. The event will feature several beers from both breweries, glassware and promotional giveaways as well as raffles. Call 688-3081.

12 Gates embraces 12

12 Gates Brewing Company (80 Earhart Drive, East Amherst) will hold a party for its second anniversary at 12:12 p.m. Dec. 12. The event will feature live music from Zak Ward, Last Call and the AJ “AppleJack” Tatzlaff Band.

The brewery will mark the occasion with the release of its Grave Concerns Russian imperial stout (22-ounce bottles will be available for $12 each). There is no cover charge to attend, and pints will cost $5 all day. Call 906-6600.

Brickyard Brewing boasts Belsnickel

Brickyard Brewing Company (436 Center St., Lewiston) has released its new dark lager, Belsnickel is Nigh. The 5.2 percent ABV Schwartzbier (German for “black beer”) is brewed with juniper berries, producing an easy drinking winter warmer with a slightly sweet flavor and aroma. Call 754-7227.

Rusty Nickel says boogity, boogity down under

Rusty Nickel Brewing Company (4350 Seneca St., West Seneca) has released its new IPA (India pale ale), “They Call Him the Streak, Mid-Season IPA." This 5 percent ABV beer was dry hopped with multiple New Zealand hop varieties for a well-balanced IPA.

Rusty Nickel will also host a pairing at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 with sausage and smoked meats company GetLinked. Call 608-6155.

NYBP to welcome Santa from above

New York Beer Project (6933 S. Transit Road, Lockport) will have Santa Claus jumping out of a plane from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 10. In addition to the Sunday brunch, there will be hot chocolate for kids (spiked with Jameson for adults). Free photos with Santa will be permitted. Call 743-6927.

Five & 20's wine side embraces holiday week
