Lancaster’s Matt Szymanski was part of a key sack that helped set up Brett Renzi’s game-winning 33-yard field goal as time expired Saturday and Brockport football advanced to the first Division III final four in school history with a 31-28 victory at Delaware Valley.
Szymanski’s half-sack on third down forced a Delaware Valley punt that gave Brockport possession on the Aggies’ 48 with 55 seconds remaining. From there the Golden Eagles, who squandered a 28-7 lead, positioned Renzi for the winning kick.
Szymanski had 11 tackles, forced a fumble and had a pass breakup. On the offensive side, Niagara Falls product DaQuan Hubbard caught five balls for 125 yards while Tyree Brown, last year’s Buffalo News Player of the Year at South Park, ran five times for 23 yards and a 1-yard score. Brown also had a 16-yard reception and completed 1 of 2 passes for 15 yards.
Brockport (13-0), coached by Lancaster native Jason Mangone, will face Mary Hardin-Baylor (13-0) of Belton, Texas, in the semifinals. The other semifinal pits Wisconsin-Oskhosh against Mount Union.
