TOWN OF NIAGARA – A suspected shoplifter described as a "black female with long pink hair'' turned out to be a Buffalo man, who was then arrested in connection with a theft from the Tommy Hilfiger store in the Fashion Outlets Mall, town police said.
The suspect was captured outside the mall on Nov. 25, with the stolen Tommy Hilfiger sweater still in his possession, police said. He identified himself as a woman, but police could find no records to match the given name, and advised the suspect of the consequences of supplying false information.
At that point, the suspect identified himself as Michael D. Holmes, 25, of Exchange Street in Buffalo.
Holmes was charged with petit larceny for taking the $70 sweater, and with false personation for providing the fake name. He was also wanted on a felony warrant out of Fairfax, Va., and is expected to be extradited to face that charge there.
