Beauts rally falls short in loss to Boston Pride

The Boston Pride were bound to get their first win of the season. It came at the expense of the Buffalo Beauts Saturday night.

The Pride earned a 3-2 win in Warrior Ice Arena in Boston in the National Women’s Hockey League. It was the second straight loss for the Beauts who fall to 2-3 on the season.

Buffalo opened the scoring at 14:44 of the first period with a power play goal from Rebecca Vint. It was the first goal of the season for Vint. Kaylyn Schroka and Corinne Buie had the assists.

But Boston (1-3-1) responded quickly in the second, scoring three times in the first 7:25 of the period. Alyssa Gagliardi tied the game at 4:31. Gagliardi then set up Jordan Smelker on the power play to give the Pride a 2-1 lead. Gagliardi scored again to extend the lead to 3-1.

The Beauts weren’t going away easily. Sarah Edney scored from Sarah Shureb at 9:59 to bring Buffalo, the defending Isobel Cup Champions, within one goal, but Pride goalie Brittany Ott shut the door the rest of the game.

Amanda Leveille made 33 saves for the Beauts, including 19 in the first period and seven in the third. Boston held a 36-29 advantage in shots.

The Beauts play at the Metropolitan Riveters on Dec. 10. The Riveters defeated Buffalo, 6-3, on Nov. 18 and 6-2 on Nov. 4.

The Beauts return to HarborCenter on Dec. 16 to host the Connecticut Whale at 1:30 p.m. Buffalo beat the Whale, 3-2, in the season opener.
