Subway restaurant worker pounces on fleeing robber

A woman with a starter pistol who robbed a Subway restaurant at Elmwood and Forest avenues Tuesday night got more than a mouthful from her victim.

The robber entered the restaurant just after 9:30 p.m., demanded money from the register and fled with cash.

But an employee chased after the robber, punching her and throwing her to the sidewalk in front of the restaurant, according to a Buffalo police report.

The thief dropped the gun and most of the cash and ran away, according to the report.

The employee told his boss that going after the robber was basically his instincts kicking in, restaurant manager Jason Maxwell told The Buffalo News. The employee who fought back also said he regretted not trying to keep the robber at the scene until police arrived, Maxwell said.
