Buffalo area has shortest life expectancy in the state

The Buffalo metro area has the shortest life-expectancy rate of any city in New York State, an online financial news and opinion company has said.

"Buffalo residents have an average life expectancy of 78.5 years (vs. 80.4 years statewide – sixth highest), a median household income of $50,962 and 27.4 percent of the population suffers from obesity," according to a report by 24/7 Wall St.

The healthiest city in the state is Ithaca, according to the analysis.

24/7 Wall St. modeled its index on an analysis by County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute joint program, the website said.
