Dunkirk woman arrested after driving wrong way on the 33

A 27-year-old Dunkirk woman is facing several charges after she tried to flee from police who attempted to stop her when she was driving in the wrong direction on Route 33.

At about 4 a.m. Sunday, police spotted Ashley Bass driving eastbound in the westbound lane of Route 33, according to Buffalo Police.

When officers tried to stop her, Bass took off and ran a red light at Genesee Street and Jefferson Avenue. She then was boxed in by patrol vehicles, police said.

Bass had slurred speech, impaired motor skills and the smell of alcohol on her breath, according to police, who also reported finding several small, white rock substances in the rear of the vehicle.

Bass, whose New York State license was suspended, is charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd degree, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
